So, sometimes I decide to make myself crazy and try to work out the timeline on QAF. Can someone tell me why I do this? I'm not allowed to do this anymore. It makes me INSANE. Especially when you realize that based on lesbian anniversaries, there has to be two full years between the s.3 opener and the s.5 opener, but based on lesbian babies, there can only be nine months between 3.05 and 4.14. And the fact that Jason Kemp was apparently murdered in April of '02. And that it's ALWAYS WINTER.

Since nobody ever reminds me that I'm not allowed to think about this, behind the cut tag, I've noted some

1.01 = Gus born
1.14 = Justin's 18th bday
1.22 = Brian's bday, Justin's prom (May/June)

2.01 = 1.5 months (Justin in coma 2 wks, rehab a month) after 1.22
2.02 = Gus's first bday (1 yr. since 1.01)
2.05 = Justin starts school (September)
2.10 = Jason Kemp murdered
2.11 = lesbian wedding
2.12 = Gus's pre-school interview (? spring)
2.16 = Justin's 19th bday, HIV's bday, Justin meets Ian
2.17 = B/J's aborted trip to VT (? possibly for "Justin's spring break")
2.20 = Rage release party

3.01 = same day as 2.20 (Rage party cont.), lesbian's 8th anniversary (1 wk after Rage party)
3.02 = Justin starts school (? September)
3.03 = MNov says Brian's 31
3.05 = Brian starts working for Stockwell, Mel impregnated
3.10 = ThatGuy's sexpig party
3.13 = Hunter's bday
3.14 = end of Mel's first trimester (3 mo. since 3.05), ThatGuy in rehab, 2003 election (? November or local election @ different time --> per kel.'s research the Pittsburgh mayoral election is in November. I'm not sure CowLip is as good w/ google as we are, but. it's something. I guess), CCftT ad indicates that Jason Kemp was killed in April 2002, about 1 year ago.

4.01 = about 3 days after 3.14
4.02 = ThatGuy leaves rehab (about a wk after 4.01)
4.03 = Brian starts Kinnetik (after getting Endovir acct. in 4.02)
4.06 = Vic dies
4.07 = Brian diagnosed w/ cancer, "Christmas" party in what Emmett says is February.
4.09 = Brian starts radiation, Emmett meets Drew Boyd (?arena football)
4.10 = Brian seems to have finished radiation (? how long)
4.13 = 2004 Liberty Ride starts
4.14 = ThatGuy's 6 month 12 step bday, Mel has baby (6 mo. since 3.14)

5.01 = ? how long since 4.14 (6 mo.). lesbian 10th anniversary (2 yrs since 3.01), Hunter is studying for "mid-terms," also ThatGuy tells Brian that Kinnetik's been in business for a year (year since 4.03/4.02) .

The info for 5.01 is only very minorly spoilery, but if you're nervous, just don't look.

DO YOU SEE HOW THIS COULD MAKE SOMEONE CRAZY? OMG. I am impressed, however, that I actually get to use this mood accurately. OMG.

Who owns the diner where Debbie works? Is it all in her head? Is the whole show all in her head?

That made me laugh aloud for a good ten minutes. And then I considered the implications and cried in terror.

you know the series finale for st. elsewhere? i feel like queer as folk should REALLY end with debnov in a nursing home somewhere, muttering about the homos in her head.

I get that the winter thing is a function of Toronto, but man, can't they pretend it's summer just every now and then?

And dude, yeah, I've NO IDEA who owns the diner. I'd also totally believe that a bunch of hot, melodramatic gay men live in DebNov's head, so hey, maybe.

In 4.07, Emmett actually says that it's February. "When I went to bed, it was February. Just how long was I asleep?"

4.14: I'm pretty sure that ThatGuy says that its his 6 month 12 step birthday, but I wouldn't swear to it. And I also remember that Emmett mentions when ThatGuy's actual birthday is, but I don't remember what it was. Just in case that's useful in some way and you wanted to look it up.

And I'm right there with you on the craziness. The one I'm stuck on is, who holds a long distance bike event during months when it could snow?? hello??

Oooh, thank you for the Feb. confirmation and the bday info. It doesn't really make me any less crazy, but at least I can be a completist.

Oh, CowLip. I swear I'ma send them a marked-up calendar with all this and a big WHYYYYY?! scrawled on it.

Oh my god, that's actually consisten! The baby was actually born 9 months after impregnation, using dates from a different storyline. I'm not sure I can cope with that.

Also, is it wrong and/or way too nerdy that this makes me want to refer to Jason Kemp's murder as "the deathday cake"?

Oh and when Theodore is showing last quarter's profits to Brian in 501, he also says that it's over the moon for being in business a year. Meaning, Kinnetik has been opened for a year now.

But what episode of S4 are they counting? Hmm. 404-- When Brian hires Theodore maybe? Or is it 406 when they have the launch party?

Uh. Does it matter? ;)

OMG. This is going to make me SO INSANE! But, yeah. Thanks for the reminder.

It DOESN'T matter. I need to just keep repeating that to myself.

Just to infuriate you a little more, I just rewatched 5.02, and Gus VanSinger says that it's summer in Australia. Which would mean it's sometime between December and February. But maybe he's just confused. And it's not like it gets very cold in Ausrtalia anyway.

As kel. can tell you, I read this and as actually reduced to writhing and moaning in pain on the couch with this new bit of info. But, I've now decided that as it should be Aug/Sept per the anniversary and some time passing, since GVS's usually in LA and there's no real seasons and since he's kind of a dumbass, I can maybe excuse it.

This whole thing has turned me into like, a co-dependent crazy person, rationalizing the way that CowLip's chronology abuse.

Hmm...I've been roughly trying to do that in my head for a while, but not with the detail you went into though. Um, to add to it...Justin and Ethan break up before or during Christmas break if I remember per comments about him moping during the break...and he gets back with Brian in 310? I'm assuming a month or two to get him back so maybe Feb for 310-9 months between 310 and 314 give or take a few.

Because I'm crazy, I can do this w/out referencing anything.

Justin breaks up w/ Ethan in 3.07. At the beginning of 3.08, Daphne says he's "moped through practically the entire first month's rent" making it safe to assume that a month passes there. Justin and Brian get back together at the end of that episode. You could argue that it should take more time for the events of 3.08 - 3.14 to play out, but looking at other storylines tells you that's it's not the case.

Mel is impregnated in 3.05 and in 3.14 talks about how it's just about the end of her first trimester ('cause she's all het up about not buying anything for the baby until she's into her second trimester), which gives us three months there. Given the month between 3.07 and 3.08, that leaves 2 months for 3.09 - 3.14 to play out. Which, for once on this show, actually feels about right to me, given how things happen.

The question of WHICH 2 months, on the other hand.... I'm not allowed to think about it anymore.

So how old is Justin exactly? This has seriously bugged me. He's 21 right? Or 22? God, is he 20? It's so strange. Because he was 19 near the end of season 3...

OMG! I DO NOT KNOW. Late s.3 (3.11 or 3.12) when the cop asks Justin how old he is, he says 19. Which. He turned 19 late s.2, so I can buy it but given the amount of time that needs to be wedged into the first half of s.3 to make the timeline work, I feel like he should be older.

Anyway, at this point I think he's at least 20, maybe 21. SO CONFUSING!
